Surgery

General Information

Surgery is done to diagnose and treat various types of infertility issues, allowing you a better chance of getting pregnant. It is performed by infertility specialists and it may be recommended after an initial assessment with your fertility specialist to investigate the cause of infertility or to treat problems that are making it difficult for you to conceive. This overview guides you on the surgery types that you may encounter as part of your infertility journey. Hystero- laparoscopy uses a small telescope-like tube called a laparoscope to let the doctor see the outside of the uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes and internal pelvic area, this surgery can take up to 30 to 40 minutes and is usually done under general anaesthesia. Hysteroscopic lateral metroplasty is done in fertility problem cases; it improves pregnancy rates among women with primary infertility. PCOS drilling is performed through the abdomen, it triggers ovulation in women who have polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and for women who are still not ovulating after losing weight and trying fertility medicines, this surgical treatment can be an option. Tubal Cannulation should be done when you have a blockage in one or both of your fallopian tubes; this surgery is most successful when the blockage is in the part of the tube closest to your womb. Polypectomy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure in which doctors remove abnormal growths of tissue, called polyps from inside your colon, it is performed whenever a polyp that needs to be removed is found. Myomectomy also known as an ‘’open’’ Myomectomy is a major surgical procedure that involves making an incision through the skin on the lower abdomen and removing the fibroids (lump or growth in the uterus that can grow anywhere inside or on the uterus) from the wall of the uterus, this surgery removes the fibroids but leaves healthy tissue of your uterus.
