Thyroid and Fertility

Causes of thyroid diseases.

Hypothyroidism (underactive) or hyperthyroidism (overactive) can occur in men and women for a variety of reasons. Graves’ disease and Hashimoto’s disease are two autoimmune diseases that could disrupt the thyroid function. Exposure to chemical substances such as iodide and lithium can also lead to thyroid problems. Inflammation caused due to infection or other illnesses can also cause disruption in the thyroid gland.

Symptoms and diagnosis

Simple blood tests can be performed to check the functioning of the thyroid gland. Issues with the thyroid glands can also be diagnosed by checking for swelling of the thyroid gland which is located in the neck.
Hyperthyroidism usually leads to anxiety, hyperactivity as well as weight loss. Hypothyroidism usually leads to mood swings as well leading to lethargy, depression as well as weight gain.
If blood tests are not as conclusive then an ultrasound scan of the thyroid can be done to check the thyroid.

Choosing the right treatment for you.

Some thyroid diseases can usually be treated by making simple changes in lifestyle. Hypothyroidism requires treatment with hormone replacement medication while hyperthyroidism may require medication or surgery.
If your infertility is caused due to thyroid malfunctioning, fertility treatment can be a successful option. IUI IVF or similar assisted reproduction techniques can be used to treat infertility depending on your case history. Get in touch with your IVF specialist who will be in a better position to guide you about the best treatment options based on your age, Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) levels as well as your ovarian reserve.
We strongly believe in the principle that the fewer medications used the better. In the long run, it helps with the health of the woman, eggs, and the baby. Using natural selection protocols for selecting the highest quality eggs, this helps reduce the side effects as well as ensuring a healthy body for implantation.
