One of the most common and successful IVF treatments, Conventional IVF uses fertility drug treatment to enhance egg generation and fertilization to further the chances of a successful pregnancy. It is called Stimulated cycle IVF.
What is Stimulated Cycle IVF?
Stimulated IVF or Conventional IVF uses hormone stimulating medication to increase the growth of egg follicles. Eggs are then aspirated and fertilized with sperm in a laboratory setting (in vitro). Once fertilized the embryos are transferred to the patient’s uterus. Only embryos of the highest quality are selected for fertilization and implantation. Additional high quality embryos can be cryopreserved for future use if required.
IVF treatment is recommended for all couples who have not been able to conceive naturally or through other artificial reproduction treatment procedures such as Intra Uterine Insemination.
Advantages of Stimulated Cycle IVF
Conventional procedure with a high success rate.
Conventional procedure with a high success rate.
Simulated IVF treatment is one of the most successful assisted reproduction techniques. Higher number of eggs available for fertilization ensures higher chances of pregnancies. Depending on the patient’s age, quality of eggs and other factors success rates can be as high as 40% per cycle.
Diagnostic Support & Disease Screening
Diagnostic Support & Disease Screening
Having a number of eggs can help experts to track down specific issues that may be affecting fertilization and option of preimplantation genetic screening (PGS) or Diagnosis (PGD) helping to select only healthiest embryos for transfer.
Cryopreservation of embryos
Cryopreservation of embryos
Cryopreservation of multiple high quality embryos provides the patients with the opportunity to use them in future cycles. Extra embryos can also be donated to help other childless couples or donated to research.

Stimulated Cycle IVF treatment Process
Stimulated Cycle IVF is a pretty long drawn out process that ensures the best results. A Stimulated cycle IVF procedure at every IVF treatment center entails daily hormonal injections produce multiple egg follicles.
Consultation and Scan
The first step in most fertility treatments is the scans and physical assessment. Based on the results of the assessment a fertility plan will be devised for you which will give you the best chance of a successful pregnancy.
Treatment Consultation.
A fertility specialist will speak to you about your treatment plan. Explain the details of the process and sign the necessary consent forms. Counselling will also be provided if required.
Fertility Medications – Gonadotropins
Depending on the infertility diagnosis and personalized treatment plan, between 20 to 60 hormone injections may be prescribed during a single, fresh stimulated IVF treatment cycle. The hormones, gonadotropins, are used to stimulate egg follicle growth. These injections are usually self-administered. The fertility specialist will guide you on how to take the injections. The injection needs to be administered on a daily basis at least once. Three to five weeks after the daily injections the egg follicle growth will be assessed
IVF Cycle Monitoring and Ovulation Induction
Regular blood tests and ultrasounds will monitor the egg development. Once the eggs are deemed to be mature enough for retrieval the patient will have to administer the ovulation trigger drug – HCG – to induce ovulation. The fertility expert from IVF Spring Mumbai, India will provide you with the best time to induce ovulation.
Egg Retrieval Process
- A needle is guided to the ovaries through the wall of the vagina.
- A vaginal ultrasound probe is used to guide the hollow needle to the ovaries and into the follicles
- Fluids from the follicles are aspirated for study
- Fluid is inspected under a microscope to help find the egg
- Sperm collected simultaneously from the male partner while the egg retrieval process is analysed and prepared for egg fertilization.
Fertilization of the Eggs
Each egg is fertilized using a technique known as Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) for optimal results. In some cases where there are high factor male infertility and low sperm motility, ICSI treatment is used to provide a boost to fertilization maximizing the chances of the sperm penetrating the wall of the egg and fertilizing the egg.
Embryo Culture & Implantation
An embryo reaching the blastocyst stage is one having grown in the laboratory for five to six days.
- The egg treated with the ICSI procedure is placed in an incubator
- It is then inspected for signs of fertilization by the sperm
- If fertilization is confirmed, the embryo is transferred to a growth fluid and observed
- High quality embryos are observed and marked for transfer
- Genetic testing can be performed to rule out for inheritable diseases and chromosomal abnormalities
- Embryos continue to be cultured in the laboratory until they reach a quality stage of development – up to 6 days (blastocyst stage)
- The embryo transfer is then scheduled on a set date
- Progesterone is self-administered daily to help prepare the patient’s uterine lining for implantation of the fertilized egg – the embryo
Pregnancy Test
Post embryo implantation a pregnancy test is scheduled on a date set out by fertility specialist. Usually a test is done through a blood drawn. Once pregnancy is confirmed the care of the patient will be handed over to the gynecologists.
