Donor Egg Couple Surrogacy

General Information

Donor Egg Surrogacy for Married Couples

If you are facing fertility problems, you should definitely consider surrogacy as an option for you and your partner.  We will help you find out how it all works and options available for you and your partner.

What is Surrogacy?

Surrogacy is a reproductive process in which a woman, called surrogate or gestational carrier, carry someone else’s baby.  If an intended mother is unable to carry the embryo herself, she may consider creating the embryo from her eggs by using a surrogate to carry the embryo. But as the quality of the egg is one of the major factors for a successful surrogacy program, surrogacy using donor egg can prove fruitful with increased chances of a successful pregnancy. In surrogacy using donor egg, both the surrogate mother as well as egg donor is involved. The decision to use donor eggs, as well as a surrogate to carry the pregnancy is not easy, but surrogacy with donor eggs represents the best chance of parenthood when faced with issues such as – issues with uterus, missing uterus issues due to surgery or other health difficulties, problems with her eggs due to age, ovarian health or other genetic factors.

Donor Egg Surrogacy

Gay male couples longing for their own children can use the donor egg surrogacy option, which involves the use of donor eggs with a surrogate. Surrogacy with donor eggs offers the chance to start their own family.

What’s involved in donor egg surrogacy process?

  • In-depth screening must be completed for both egg donor and surrogate
  • Both women’s menstrual cycles have to be synchronized through medication
  • Legal documents have to signed
  • There’s no guarantee of how the donor will respond to the medication, or how many eggs will be retrieved.

How donor eggs can help?

  • If you are choosing a good donor egg bank, chances are the bank had already screened the egg donor rigorously
  • As the screening and retrieval have already been completed with the donor eggs, your surrogacy process will take less time
  • You and your partner can fully focus on the needs of the surrogate

Note- Gestational also called‘’ Host Surrogacy’’ is used during the donor egg surrogacy process. In the gestational/ host surrogacy method, the surrogate becomes pregnant through in vitro fertilization (IVF). The eggs of the intended mother or a donor are used and therefore there is no genetic connection between the baby and the surrogate.

In some states & countries, a surrogacy arrangement can only take place if the baby is genetically related to at least one of the intended parents, in other locations, this is not a problem.

Few Reasons Why You May Need a Gestational Carrier/ Surrogate

  • Medical conditions that may expose danger to the mother or baby’s life if she were pregnant
  • Repeated pregnancy loss
  • Repeated unexplained IVF implantation failure
  • Previous pregnancy or birth complications
  • Missing of the uterus (from birth or after removal for medical reasons)
  • Single man who wishes to have a child
  • A male gay couple who hopes to have a child

‘’If donor’s eggs are used in the surrogacy process, the surrogacy cost can climb up to 10 lakhs’’.

‘’Research shows that women who are 40 years and older may decide that using donor eggs is a safer health option for them and their future child’’.

Some of the Requirements to Become a Surrogate

  • Be prepared to be available and willing to attend many doctors’ appointments

  • Live in surrogacy friendly state or country
  • Have had at least one healthy pregnancy & birth in the past
  • Be older than 21 but younger than 35(some exceptions can be made for a known gestational carrier).

It is very crucial to find a reputable surrogacy and egg donor agency that will have a good amount database of surrogates and donors for its intending parents to review. Photos of the donor at various stages of life, a video, and background information are available at most agencies.

When intending parents choose a donor, the agency will check on the availability, if the donor is ready to move forward.
