Patients who use frozen embryos currently experience success rates equal to, or greater than, those from fresh embryo transfer cycles. The success rate for IVF using frozen embryos has been increasing year on year. The birth rate for frozen embryo and thawed embryos was 39 per cent, compared to 20 per cent for fresh embryos.

Side effects of embryo freezing generally occur when the doctor is extracting the eggs. The side effects tend to be very mild and temporary. They include- cramping, bloating, feeling full, infection, changes in the vaginal discharge, slight bleeding.
