The male fertility test is a very simple and routine procedure, so after the evaluation and physical examination process is completed, a semen analysis is performed- in this method, a trained expert checks your sperm count, their shape, movement, and other features.  For this to happen a sperm sample is collected into a specimen jar and presented to a laboratory technician who examines the sperm under a microscope in order to assess the count, shape, appearance, and mobility of the sperm. The technician will also be checking to see if the sperm concentration is above or below 20 million sperm cells per millilitre of ejaculation fluid. A semen analysis is the most common procedure when it comes to male fertility testing and searching to determine if there is a male infertility factor.

‘’About 15% of infertile men have normal semen and enough of normal sperm’’

If your first semen analysis is normal, your fertility doctor may order a second test to confirm the results. Two normal tests mean you don’t have any significant infertility problems.

If your semen analysis result looks unusual, your fertility doctor may order more tests to pinpoint the issue. If the sperm count is low, the fertility doctor will likely test the blood testosterone (primary male sex hormone), FSH (Follicle-stimulating hormone), LH (Luteinizing Hormone) and Prolactin levels (PRL).
