Advanced Egg Freezing Procedure

For many women, fertility is not just about the present it’s about securing future possibilities. Whether you’re focusing on your career, awaiting the right partner, or facing a medical condition that could impact fertility, egg freezing gives you control over your reproductive choices. At IVF Spring Fertility Centre, Mumbai, we offer a state-of-the-art egg freezing procedure that allows you to preserve high-quality eggs for later use.
If you’re thinking about freezing your eggs, now is the time to learn more. Let’s explore everything you need to know about egg freezing
What is Egg Freezing?
Egg freezing, also known as oocyte cryopreservation, is a process that allows women to preserve their fertility for the future. It involves retrieving, freezing, and storing unfertilised eggs, so they can be used later when you’re ready for pregnancy. Unlike embryo freezing, where fertilisation happens before freezing, egg freezing allows you to keep your options open, whether you use them later with a partner or choose donor sperm.
At IVF Spring Fertility Centre, Mumbai, we use cutting-edge vitrification technology to freeze eggs efficiently, reducing the risk of ice crystal formation and ensuring higher survival rates after thawing.
Who All Can Consider Egg Freezing?
If you want to preserve your fertility, then you must consider egg freezing. It is beneficial for:
- Women who want to or are required to delay pregnancy for the purpose of pursuing educational, career, and/or personal goals
- Women who have been diagnosed with cancer
- Women who cannot choose to store frozen embryos because of moral and/or religious reasons
What Are the Advantages of Egg Freezing?
Many women wonder whether egg freezing is a suitable option for them. Here are the key benefits:
- Preserves fertility – Freezing your eggs now gives you the chance to conceive when you’re ready.
- Higher pregnancy success rates – Younger eggs have better quality, increasing your chances of a healthy pregnancy later.
- More control over reproductive choices – You can plan parenthood on your terms.
- Useful for medical reasons – Women with cancer or medical conditions affecting fertility can secure their future chances of having children.
- No pressure to rush into pregnancy – Egg freezing removes the stress of the ticking biological clock.
When is the Best Time to Freeze Your Eggs?
All women in their prime reproductive age often feel confident about the timeline they set for family building. If your partner is also agreeable to expanding the family and you are enjoying the best of health, you can become a mother rather quickly. Unfortunately, the path to pregnancy is not smooth for many women. Some women might even wonder as to how long they should wait prior to exploring the possibility of fertility preservation. The prime reproductive age starts at 20 years and goes up to the early 30s. This is the best time to opt for egg freezing (oocyte cryopreservation).
How is Egg Freezing Done?
Egg freezing is done using either a slow-freeze or flash-freeze (vitrification) method. We at IVF Spring Fertility Center in Mumbai are experts in both slow-freeze and flash-freeze methods. Currently, we use the vitrification method.
What Does the Egg Freezing Procedure Include?
The egg freezing procedure is a step-by-step process that takes about 2–3 weeks. Our specialists at IVF Spring Fertility Centre ensure that the process is safe, comfortable, and personalised to suit your needs.
Counselling & Consultation
Your fertility expert will discuss the procedure, success rates, legal aspects, and emotional considerations. We understand that fertility decisions can feel overwhelming, and we’re here to guide you through every step with clarity and care.
Medical Evaluation
Comprehensive tests, including HIV, Hepatitis B & C, hormone levels, and ovarian reserve, ensure you are fit for the procedure.
Ovarian Stimulation
You’ll receive hormonal injections for 10–14 days to stimulate your ovaries to produce multiple eggs. Regular ultrasounds and blood tests will monitor your response to the medication.
Egg Retrieval
Once your eggs are mature, they are retrieved using a minimally invasive ultrasound-guided procedure under light sedation. This is a quick process, usually completed within 15–20 minutes, with minimal discomfort.
Cryoprotection & Freezing
Your retrieved eggs are treated with a cryoprotectant solution to prevent ice damage. They are then rapidly cooled using vitrification (flash-freezing) and stored in liquid nitrogen at -196°C.
At IVF Spring, we prioritise safety, efficiency, and emotional well-being, ensuring you are comfortable at every stage.
For What Period of Time can the Eggs be Kept Frozen?
At our Egg Freezing Center in Mumbai, we keep the eggs at -196 degrees Celsius. Our experience shows that it is possible to achieve pregnancies with embryos that have been frozen for several years. In one specific case, the embryo was frozen for 10 years.
Scientific evidence proves the same. We are pretty confident that the quality of eggs does not deteriorate because of storage.
How Many Eggs are Stored to Achieve Pregnancy?
Preliminary data from the study conducted by us and others shows that an egg thaw rate of 75 percent and a fertilization rate of 75 percent can be expected if your age is 38 years or below. This means that 7 out of 10 frozen eggs survive the thaw and 5 or 6 are fertilized and become embryos.
Typically, 3 to 4 embryos are transplanted in women who are 38 years or below. It is, therefore, recommended that you store 10 eggs prior to attempting a pregnancy. It is possible to harvest 10 to 20 eggs per cycle from most women below 38 years.
What Happens if You Are More Than 38 years Old?
Pregnancy success rate, when using frozen eggs, depends on your age at the time of freezing the eggs and not on the age when you decide to use them. As such, the possibility of a successful future pregnancy in women whose eggs have been harvested when they are above 38 is lower compared to eggs harvested at a younger age.
What is the Egg Freezing Cost?
It is the same as that of routine IVF and includes all testing, monitoring, medication, and freezing costs. The egg freezing cost is levied for a calendar year. The charges for thawing the egg, fertilization, and transfer of the embryo are billed separately. These charges are payable prior to thawing the eggs. All the costs are set and guaranteed when starting the egg freezing cycle. Discount is offered for additional freezing cycles. You can contact our accounts depart for information on different payment plans.
What is the Success Rate of Egg Freezing?
The success of egg freezing depends on factors like age, egg quality, and the freezing method used. The younger you are when you freeze your eggs, the higher your chances of a successful pregnancy later. At IVF Spring Fertility Centre, Mumbai, our highly skilled embryologists use the latest vitrification techniques to ensure excellent egg survival rates and high chances of future pregnancy.
Selecting the right fertility centre is a significant decision, requiring trust, expertise, and a proven track record of success. At IVF Spring Fertility Centre, Mumbai, we are committed to providing advanced fertility solutions with a patient-centred approach.
