Female Infertility FAQs

About 15-25% of couples are dealing with fertility problems. The female factor is responsible for 50% of the infertility cases. It is important that we take female infertility treatment seriously. The cases are only worsening because of the lack of awareness about female infertility causes, such as ovulation disorders, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), or even lifestyle factors, which often delay essential treatment.

The good news is that advancements in medical science, including female infertility treatments, offer hope to women experiencing this challenge. At IVF Spring Fertility Centre, we understand how overwhelming infertility can be. Our personalised care and advanced treatments address the reasons for female infertility, helping you take confident steps toward parenthood. Let us guide you on this journey with compassion and expertise.

1. What are the most common female infertility causes?

Infertility in women can arise due to several reasons, many of which are often overlooked or underestimated. Some of the most common causes include:

  • Hormonal Imbalances: These can interfere with ovulation, leading to irregular or absent periods.
  • Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS): This condition impacts the ovaries and often disrupts ovulation.
  • Age-related Decline: Fertility naturally decreases with age, especially after 35.
  • Uterine or Tubal Issues: Problems such as blocked fallopian tubes or uterine abnormalities can hinder conception.
  • Lifestyle Factors: Poor diet, excessive stress, and lack of physical activity are known to contribute to infertility.

Seeking timely medical advice can help identify these causes and provide a clear path toward effective female infertility treatment

2. What is an ovulation disorder, and how does it lead to female infertility?

Ovulation disorder refers to when the woman’s body is not able to release eggs on a regular basis. It is responsible for nearly 25-30% of all infertility cases. These occur when:

  • Hormonal imbalances disrupt the release of eggs.
  • Stress, excessive exercise, or being underweight affects ovulation.
  • Conditions like PCOS interfere with normal ovulatory cycles.

With proper medical evaluation and treatment, ovulation issues can often be corrected, improving the chances of conception.

3. How does age affect fertility in women?

Age can have a huge impact on a woman’s reproductive health. The ability of a woman to have a child reduces by 5% each year once they reach 30. It declines more significantly after 35, and after 40, a woman has only a 5% chance of getting pregnant each month. Science has a reason behind why women need help with fertility after passing a certain age. The age of a woman can also lead to more complications during pregnancy.

4. Can Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) cause female infertility?

YES! PCOS can result in female infertility as it leads to irregular ovulation. Some women with PCOS might ovulate occasionally, while others will not ovulate at all. It is better that you seek female infertility treatment as soon as you can.

Common Symptoms:

  • Irregular periods
  • Excess facial or body hair
  • Acne or oily skin
  • Difficulty maintaining a healthy weight

At IVF Spring, our experts specialise in treating PCOS-related infertility. We combine lifestyle modifications, medication, and assisted reproductive technologies (ART) to improve the chances of conception for women with PCOS.

5. Is diabetes a cause of infertility in women?

Yes, both kinds of diabetes can affect female infertility. There are many other diseases that can lead to infertility. They are sometimes difficult to identify, but some of the most common ones are diabetes, bowel diseases and epilepsy.

6. What lifestyle habits can lead to female infertility?

Lifestyle choices play a significant role in fertility health. Modern-day habits can often interfere with a woman’s ability to conceive. Here are some contributing factors:

  • Smoking and Alcohol: Both can reduce egg quality and impact ovulation.
  • Obesity or Being Underweight: Extreme weight conditions can disrupt hormonal balance, affecting fertility.
  • High-Stress Levels: Chronic stress can interfere with the reproductive hormones necessary for ovulation.
  • Lack of Physical Activity: Sedentary behaviour increases the risk of conditions like PCOS, which affect fertility.

7. What is unexplained infertility?

Unexplained infertility is when the cause of fertility remains unknown even after the assessment of the semen analysis in men and scanning of the uterus along with fallopian tubes done in women. It can be one of the most frustrating diagnoses. Despite normal test results, conception does not occur, leaving couples without clear answers. This condition affects about 15-30% of couples seeking fertility help.

8. What is Asherman’s Syndrome? Is it one of the reasons for female infertility?

Asherman Syndrome is a rare cause of female infertility. It is characterised by fibrosis of the endometrium but can also affect the myometrium. It mostly occurs in women who have had several dilatation and curettage (D&C) procedures. The condition can lead to:

  • Partial or complete blockage of the uterine cavity, preventing implantation of a fertilised egg.
  • Irregular or absent menstrual cycles, as scar tissue reduces the endometrial lining.
  • Recurrent miscarriages due to an inability to support pregnancy.

9. Are there any signs of female infertility?

No, there are no signs that can possibly identify that there is a problem with your infertility except that you are not able to conceive. If you have been trying for a few months without success, it is better that you consult a fertility specialist soon.

10. Are treatments like IVF safe for me?

IVF (In Vitro Fertilisation) and other assisted reproductive technologies are widely regarded as safe and effective female infertility treatments. While IVF has an excellent success rate, it is important to approach the procedure with careful consideration and the guidance of a qualified fertility specialist.
