About 40% of the women face problem of irregular periods; one may feel that it is okay to sometimes have irregularity in the menstrual cycle. But the small negligence may create a hindrance in your pregnancy. Yes, it is true that becoming pregnant is difficult with irregular periods, but is not impossible. You might not get pregnant as quickly as the ones with the regular cycles.
It has been proved in various scientific researches that women who witness variation in their cycles by less than 2 days have two times better chances of getting pregnant with the one who had variation in their cycle by more than 6 days. Also, the chances of women getting pregnant with regular cycles are four times more than that of those having variation of more than 10 days.

What does an Irregular Period mean?
When the menstrual cycle of a woman is shorter than 21 days or longer than 35 days then she is said to have irregular periods. In case the cycles vary differently every month like in one month it stays for 23 days and in the otherit stays for 32 days, the cycles are considered as irregular. It has been proved that up to 40% of the infertility problems are caused due to irregularity in the menstrual cycle. When a woman undergoes the situation of irregular periods or abnormal bleeding, it is known as anovulation.

What causes difficulty in getting Pregnant with Irregular Periods?
As I have already discussed above, the irregularity of the menstrual cycle has a lot to do with the chances of a woman getting pregnant. If your body is showing symptoms of anovulation, knowing the cause is important. Here are some of the possible reasons that can risk your fertility:

Polycystic Ovaries Syndrome (PCOS): PCOS is a common hormonal disorder amongst women at their reproductive age. This occurs with the formation of small cysts at the outer edges of the ovaries. Women suffering from PCOS usually have prolonged or infrequent menstrual periods and generation of male hormone (androgen) in excessive quantities leading to symptoms like facial hair growth and acne. Every 1 out of 8 women is affected by the problem of PCOS. However, PCOS is not the only cause that make the menstrual cycles irregular. Below-mentioned is the other reasons.

Thyroid Dysfunction: Thyroid imbalance is also one of the causes that lead to irregularity in periods. The diminished level of thyroid hormone is usually responsible for frequent anovulation. When the reproductive hormones such as oestrogen and FSH are affected, it is known as hypothyroidism. Sometimes the increased level of thyroid hormones, known as hyperthyroidism, can also become a cause for your irregular menstrual cycles. In such cases, consulting your doctor for proper treatment is advisable.

Body Weight: Both the increase and decrease in weight are associated with anovulation. In case of underweight women, the fluctuation in the ovulation cycle is because of malnutrition caused due to nutritional deficiencies. By gaining some weight, you can achieve the Body Mass Index (BMI) in order to get the cycles regular.

In case of women with increased weight, the abnormal insulin levels are the culprit. They lead to the occurrence of both weight and ovulation issues. Reduction in weight will help in sustaining a healthy pregnancy. However, one must not go on intense dieting or exercising, otherwise, it will disturb the normal functioning of the body.

Calculate your Fertile Day!
For getting pregnant quickly during irregular periods, calculate your most fertile day. It can be done with the help of an ovulation calculator. An ovulation calculator is nothing but a manually maintained record for keeping a track of your monthly cycle. For tracking your ovulation cycle, start calculating from the first day of your last menstrual period or 12-16 days before from the next expected period. Usually, a woman ovulates from day 11 to day 21 of the cycle, calculated from the last menstrual cycle. This period is considered as the “fertile time” and is the best time to conceive. If you undergo sexual intercourse at this time, there are high chances for you to get pregnant.
