Embryoscope: The Technology Behind IVF

The field of fertility treatments is expansive, with new breakthroughs and innovations enabling more and more couples to experience the joy of parenthood. The Embryoscope is one such innovation that turned heads and showcased how the industry has been progressing. The Embryoscope is used in IVF laboratories and is essentially an incubator for embryos to progress. The star feature about this technology though, is that specialists can closely monitor the egg without removing them from the incubator at all.

HOW IT WORKS:

The environment inside the incubator mimics the environment of the uterus, with the necessary temperature and nutrients needed for the embryos to thrive. During an IVF treatment, the eggs remain in the incubator for 3-5 days. Their progress is monitored, and finally, one is chosen to be placed in the uterus. The Embryoscope also has a built-in camera and microphone that takes pictures of the embryo at regular intervals of 10 minutes. These pictures are put into a time-lapse that helps the specialists to closely assess the embryos and pick the best one for implantation, after the 5 day period.

THE ADVANTAGES OF THE EMBRYOSCOPE:

  • It mimics the environment inside the uterus, which is helpful to keep the embryos viable.
  • The Embryoscope allows specialists to examine and determine the progress of the embryos without removing them from the incubator at all.
  • It helps the embryologists to detect potential chromosomal abnormalities in the embryos.
  • It gives the embryologists valuable information about the development of the embryos, which helps to determine the best embryo for transfer and implantation.
  • The Embryoscope also helps to monitor cell division, which is essential to determine the best embryo.

THE EMBRYOSCOPE IS RECOMMENDED FOR:

There is no definite distinction between patients who can and cannot implement the Embryoscope in  IVF  treatments. This technology boosts the rate of pregnancy, as only the best embryo is selected for implantation. It is however, a preferred device for patients who have multiple embryos so that the best one from the incubator can be selected. Nevertheless, the stable environment in the Embryoscope can boost an embryo’s ability to thrive.

THE RESULTS OF THE EMBRYOSCOPE:

As opposed to the traditional method of periodically removing the embryos from the incubator to monitor their progress through a microscope, the Embryoscope Technology allows embryologists to monitor the embryos without removing them from the incubator at all. The ability of an embryo to thrive in the Embryoscope as compared to a traditional incubator is 15-20% higher.

EMBRYO SELECTION INVOLVES:

Embryo Selection is the process through which the best embryo is selected for implantation. This is done through close monitoring of the progress of each embryo, by regularly checking development and cell division. It is essential to choose the best embryo for implantation, as it will give women the best chance of getting pregnant.

The Embryoscope is a revolutionary innovation that gives fertility experts information on embryos that they previously could not get. The Embryoscope success rates for IVF are high, as it has enabled more women to have an easy and safe pregnancy.
