IVF for Endometriosis Patients? Read About My IVF Journey in India

Everyone’s infertility journey is said to be different. My journey consisted of unexpected twists, long plane journeys, and sleepless nights. However, the baby in my arms makes me come to the realization that it was worth it. Here is my story of how IVF in India saved my life and helped me accomplish everything I wanted.

‘Luckily enough, we were told that there was a treatment for Endometriosis, and that if I would agree to it, a cycle of IVF in India could actually result in success.’

The Backstory:

After 3 years of battling infertility with countless IVF cycles, I was honestly quite worn out and tired with the direction my life was heading in. Not being able to give my husband a child of his own put so much pressure on me, making me feel less of a woman, and guilty about every step I took. After spending almost a month or so in a self-inflicted depression, I decided to meet a friend who was in town. Though I had not told most people about my issues, I thought that maybe talking to her would help. And lo and behold! She knew exactly what to do.

Consulting an Expert:

My friend lives in Mumbai and knew of a fertility clinic in the city that might have been able to help me. Urging me to give it one last shot, she got me an online consultation with Dr Anjali Deval, the physician there. On the day of the consultation. We spoke to Dr Deval, who seemed kind and understanding. She asked us details about our previous IVF cycles, what the doctors had diagnosed me with, and more. We then had to get some tests done and send her the results, along with our entire medical history. After carefully studying our case, she then asked us to come to Mumbai for some further screening.

Travelling to Mumbai:

Although we were quite anxious about what would surface from this experience, we decided to book tickets. After getting our documentation and itinerary in place and taking off from work, my husband and I were on a plane to Mumbai, not sure about what the future held. We got to our hotel, and we’re off for our appointment the next afternoon.

The Appointment That Changed Our Life:

We walked into the clinic and got our preliminaries out of the way. Dr Deval was of course there. She spoke to us about the reports she had studied and asked me if I faced certain symptoms, which I later found out were what indicated I had Endometriosis. She suggested that I undergo a Laparoscopy at the clinic, which would help narrow down the cause of my problem. Knowing that she was our last chance, my husband and I agreed. The Laparoscopy took place, during which I was sedated. After the procedure, Dr Deval then explained her findings. She said I had Endometriosis, which is the growth of the uterine lining on other organs. My right tube was completely blocked by this tissue, which was causing infertility. Luckily enough, we were told that there was a treatment for Endometriosis, and that if I would agree to it, a cycle of IVF in India could actually result in success.

Bye bye, Endometriosis! Hello, IVF!

In short, the Endometriosis treatment was conducted, which was similar to the previous Laparoscopy that I went through. After 2 sessions of Laparoscopy, I was Endometriosis free and ready for IVF in India. I was put through a similar IVF cycle as I had previously gone through. The first two weeks consisted of fertility drugs. And I have to say, my husband and I enjoyed our little vacation during that time, as we didn’t have anything to do at all. Mumbai is truly a beautiful city. Then came egg retrieval, and fertilization, where we were told that 8 eggs of the 11 retrieved ones were successfully fertilized. No surprise there. Then, the true test. After the embryo transfer, we decided to wait on in Mumbai itself, rather than travel home. 2 LONG weeks later, a nurse called me up with words I had waited 3 long years to hear, ‘Congrats! You’re pregnant.’ Oh, the joy!

Home sweet home! And the end of our journey!

We went home for the term of the pregnancy. Dr Deval was kind enough to coordinate with an obstetrician in our city. 9 beautiful months of pregnancy later, we now have an adorable baby boy, and couldn’t be happier.

If I have to, one bit of advice I would like to give any couple like us is ‘Don’t give up until you’ve tried it all’. Look at every option you have, exhaust all of them, and then try once more. It’s not an easy journey, but if you can endure it, I promise, it will be worth it.

What patients with Endometriosis don’t know is that IVF cycles can help them conceive, as long as they are treated for their existing condition first. In fact, pregnancy is considered to be a good way to keep Endometriosis at bay for a while. We have helped numerous patients with Endometriosis become happy parents, and you can be one of them, too.
