Ovulation calculation- what you need to know about ovulation when trying to conceive

If you are trying to get pregnant then the best time to try is the time when you are ovulating. There is an easy method for you to know when you ovulate. In this blog, you will come to know the exact time when you undergo ovulation and also you can calculate it on your own.

What is Ovulation?

What is Ovulation

When an unfertilized egg from the ovary of a woman is released by traveling through the fallopian tubes and the uterus during the menstrual cycle, it is known as ovulation. If the released egg is fertilized by the sperm then you can get pregnant. It will occur generally 12-16 days before your next period starts.

Normally only one egg is released each time of ovulation and after leaving an ovary it generally lives between 12 to 24 hours. The released egg is then fertilized and is ready for implantation for 6-12 days before the process of ovulation. Even if your menstrual period has not occurred, there are chances that your ovulation cycle still may start. You must also know that your ovulation cycle may also get affected by some other problems such as stress, illness, and disruption in normal routines.

Signs of Ovulation

  • If the level of luteinizing hormone (LH) is high after measuring on an ovulation kit.
  • If there is a thin and white discharge flowing from the vagina or mucus from the cervix.

Ovulation Calculator

To ensure your possibilities of getting pregnant, you can calculate your ovulation cycle. Generally, the time span of a woman’s menstrual cycle is between 28-32 days and varies from woman to woman. To keep a track on your ovulation cycle, you should start calculating from the first day of your last menstrual period or calculating 12-16 days before from the next expected period. Usually, the women ovulate from the day 11 to day 21 of the cycle count from the last menstrual period. This period of ovulation is considered as the “fertile time” and is the best time to conceive as there are high chances of getting pregnant if you have sexual intercourse at this time.

Every month the ovulation occurs on a different day and also it occurs more than one time in a month’s cycle so you should keep a track of your cycle every time. There are various ovulation kits and calendars available in the market for you to know the time when you are highly fertile. You can also calculate the level of luteinizing hormone (LH) present in your ovaries with the help of the kit as the increased level of LH indicates higher chances of pregnancy.

Apart from tracking your ovulation cycle, you should also take good care of your health for getting pregnant. While maintaining a healthy diet, more intakes of folic acids such as orange, grapes, and strawberries etc. along with timely vaccinations are advised by our doctors.
